Inside the Head of Rory Owens

What is your earliest memory?
Sitting on a tricycle in the middle of the kitchen, watching my mum chat with my older sister.
What sort of child were you?
I was quiet and unassuming, I suppose. I wasn’t the type to put on big shows or fight for the center of attention, not by any means. I stuck to the background and let my other siblings have the spotlight. At least, that’s how I was with my family. Clearly I’ve not done too good a job at staying out of the spotlight otherwise, yeah?
What are you best at?
Self-deprecating humour.
What would you like to be better at?
Acting. Always acting.
Tell us a secret about yourself.
I never know what to say when I’m asked this. I’m allergic to soy. Is that a good one?
Who would play you in a film of your life?
Prince Harry, who else?
What’s your most treasured possession?
I probably shouldn’t say here otherwise they might try to make me give it back. Let’s just say it’s something I shouldn’t have and I may or may not have stolen it from a set. That’s all I’m revealing.
What was the best night of your life?
I’m sort of hoping it hasn’t happened yet. I’m still quite young. But I’ve spent a few nights at Glastonbury in years gone past that were just… dunno, truly special. That’s the best way I can think of putting it. Music and friends and just a wonderful, creative, electrically charged atmosphere.
What’s the biggest star name in your contact book?
John Cleese. He never returns my calls though. It’s tragic.
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
I was horsing around on set one day, right before I had to do a big scene with Dame Maggie Smith, and my pants split. Just ripped right down the center, straight out of a nightmare. I don’t know if I was more mortified about my pants being ruined or the fact that I made everyone wait on me while I got my wardrobe fixed up. I felt so foolish for having been so unprofessional and wasting her time like that. No one gave me a hard time about it, but I’m still beating myself up about it to this very day. I doubt she even remembers it though.
Who do you most admire?
My family, in its entirety. Tilda Swinton and Richard Ayoade are incredibly admirably, the both of them are every bit as brilliantly inhuman as you could possibly imagine. Perhaps even more so. I've learnt so much just from being around them on set. And last but not least, Jo Rowling. Everyone should admire Jo.
What do you believe in?
The innate capacity we all have to truly surprise and fascinate ourselves and each other. You can know someone for ages and still learn something new about who they are, every day. Believing in that has made for an exciting life thus far.
What’s the worst thing you’ve ever said to anybody?
I’m sure I’ve said some especially hurtful things while arguing with my sisters. But in my defence, they’re all quite gifted when it comes to pushing my buttons. No one can rile me like my sisters can. They make it look so effortless too.
What’s your favorite word?
'Yes'. In any context, just about.
