Check Out the Eye-Popping, Explosive New Trailer for 'Mad Max: Fury Road'

Explosions, ominous clouds of dusts and violent battle royales comprise all two-and-a-half minutes of the first official trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road, the latest installment in the classic post-apocalyptic road-warrior series. The film stars Tom Hardy as the titular Max Rockatansky ("My world is fire and blood.") – a role originated by Mel Gibson back in 1979 – and was directed by mastermind George Miller, who helmed the previous films (as well as the much more family friendly Happy Feet) and co-wrote the movie's script. Starring alongside Hardy we have Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa ("Out here, everything hurts."), Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe, and a virtually unrecognizable Rory Owens as the maniacal Nux ("Oh, what a day! What a lovely day!"), amongst a flurry of other known faces.

According to the synopsis on the trailer's YouTube page, Max has become nomadic, haunted by his past, when he encounters a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a war rig driven by Furiosa. "They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken," the synopsis details. "Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows."

Miller offered a first look at the film in July during an appearance at Comic-Con. He reported at the time that production on the film began in 2012. "I love chase movies; I think they're the purest form of cinema," Miller said at the panel, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. "That's where the film language started. I wanted to make one long, extended chase, and see what we could pick up about the characters along the way."

The movie is scheduled to come out on May 15th.
